The Kiss - Exhibition artwork
The Kiss
25 x 27 x 17cm
Glazed stoneware with copper lustre
The Kiss draws on the materiality of clay and glaze to explore representations of femininity in a rural landscape. Rural small towns present challenges to young women, in particular those who do not conform to the more traditional ideologies of who young women should aspire to be and their roles in relationships. The Kiss conceptualises the tension between a wider global understanding of womanhood and the challenges women face in learning to embrace a sexuality not tied to motherhood and domesticity.
This work was an early experimental work made in 2024 whilst I was developing the aesthetics and techniques now employed in my textured exhibition works. An exhibition work in its own right, it was exhibited within the 2024 touring group show Terrain and the Ipswich Art Awards of the same year.
****Currently only available as pick up due to size and weight. Please reach out via my Instagram or email if you cannot do the pick up options provided but are interested in purchasing as there will need to be a custom shipping quote.****
Please note that these ceramic items are hand made on a potter's wheel and are organic in nature. These pieces are dishwasher safe, however handwashing is recommended to prolong their life. One of a kind artwork not intended for functional use.
